Winter wardrobe essentials for background work

By Local BG Talent

Ontario winters do not pause for film schedules. If you are booked on a snowy exterior, what you wear under and over your costume matters as much as your on-camera look.

Base layers in wool or synthetic blends keep you warm without bulk. Avoid cotton closest to your skin — it holds moisture and chills you fast.

Neutral outerwear in black, navy, or charcoal is useful when production provides a partial wardrobe but expects you to arrive with a proper coat and boots.

Hand warmers and lip balm live in every experienced background performer’s bag. You may stand outside for long stretches between setups.

Always label your personal items and check whether production has a wardrobe department before assuming you will change on site. When in doubt, email us before call time.
